3.300 EUR

Öl/Holz. Musikalische Gesellschaft. Signatur teils ber., ret., ansonsten altersbedingte, gute Erhaltung. Niederlande, 17. Jh. H x B ca. 40 x 52,8 cm, prächtig ger.

Oil/oak panel, a classic musical company: A group around a table is engaged in music making, a standing gentleman is playing the violin, three others have sheet music in front of them on the table, presumably singing. Another gentleman, sitting in the foreground, is smoking a pipe, whilst a servant is fetching drinks from a side table. Lower left Signed and “1637” dated. Jan Olis was born in Gorinchem, in 1632 he became a member of the Dordrecht Guild of St. Luke and during the years 1632-1643 he is registered both as a wine seller and a teacher in the guild. He is possibly the same person as Jan Olofsen who became a member of the Confrerie Pictura in The Hague in 1643. He is known for farm scenes, genre works, and merry companies. Signature partially rubbed, otherwise good condition. Netherlands, 17 c. 40 x 52,8 cm, in gilt Frame.
