Min. Krak., kl. Ret. am Himmel, ansonsten altersbedingte, gute Erhaltung. Niederlande, 17. Jh. Hx B ca. 31 x 42 cm, ger.

Oil on panel, Circle of Tobias Verhaecht (1561-1631), The Fall Of Bellerophon, A mountainous landscape opens up a view onto the sea with a fisherman in a boat; in the sky the flying horse Pegasus losing its rider, the hero Bellerophon, after being stung by a gadfly. Bellerophon's fall was Zeus' punishment for his hubris of attempting to fly to Mount Olympus. Our painting is characterized by the unusually intense yellow-orange palette used for the sunset, which was an import from Italy into Flanders. Min. Craquelure, min. retouch in the sky, otherwise very good condition. Netherlands, 17 c. 31 x 42 cm, framed
