Er war ein deutscher Landschafts- und Genremaler sowie ein Sohn des Architektur- und Landschaftsmalers Leonhard Faustner (* 16. Februar 1815; † 1. April 1884), sowie ein Studienkollege von Hermann Kaulbach und Franz Defregger.
